Im looking at a 2 1/2 ton transfer case as I found one for pretty cheap. It is supposively air shift, but my question is this. Does it have to have compressed air to STAY LOCKED IN 4LOW? Or can I get it in 4low and it will stay without air going to it?

So they made a case that is not air shift also I assume? If it isnt an air shift I will be bringing it home. I will look at it friday. I guess if it has air line fittings its air shift and if it doesnt have air fittings then its not...

you need to get the air  ;)air shift doesnt require welding and you can go from 2 wheel to 4 wheel i just leave mine in low and go from 2-4 wheel drive if not the other case it must be welded if you don't weld the sprags it will only work in one direction unless you shift it when you change directions and when you weld the sprag its always in 4 wheel drive
